Steven Spielberg’s intriguing, thought provoking sci-fi piece takes place in the no-so-distant future where the polar ice caps have melted and ocean waters have consumed many of the coastal cities in the world. If you’re looking for more of that, Snowpiercer is definitely worth checking out. What’s particularly intriguing here though is the commentary, which plays into those ideas seen in Space Sweepers surrounding capitalism and the rich/poor divide. Inevitably, a new class system emerges between the different carriages as humanity is pushed to the brink. These lucky souls have managed to board the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe. This claustrophobic, thought provoking film takes place in the future where a failed climate-change experiment has killed all life except for the “elite” few.
